Air New Guinea, the National Flag Carrier of Papua New Guinea (PNG) has been in the past using a container office in Kiunga according to PNG’s popular social median forum, Sharp Talk.
Question was raised by PNGLoop on what Air Niugini was doing about the situation.
A highly placed source from Air Niugini says that it is the role of PNG Air Ports Corporation (PNGAPC) to look after all airport facilities.
“Air Niugini is only an airline company. Air Ports Corporation is the body that looks after all the airport facilities around the country” Air Niugini source says.
The source confirmed that the national flag carrier’s office in Kiunga is housed in a container but cleared the air that the property used as office belongs to a private entity.
“The container office is a private property. Air Niugini’s only rents it” the source says.
Kiunga is the home province to Tedi Mining Limited, a world class mining project which generates billions of kina in revenue to the State’s coffers.
To see a saddening situation like that demands action from provincial leaders and responsible bodies like PNGAPC.
